The mission of Indian Health Service is to elevate the health status of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level possible. The major components of the IHS health care delivery system are (1) Direct Care, which are services provided by and at tribal programs/health facilities, and (2) Contract Health Services, services provided by non-IHS health care providers.
